When we were asked by Todd Long to re release his Gym-E slow flyer we jumped at the opportunity.  The Gym-E has long been revered as one of the most successful gymnasium flyers that made use of simple RC electronics.  No complicated worm drive servos or magnetic actuators.  You can actually work on the electronics without magnification or tweezers... trust me, this puts the fun back in indoor flying.

While staying true to the original design we left no stone unturned as we've updated all of the fuselage components for compatibility with today's lighter RC electronics.  Particular attention was given to lightening up the fuselage and tail section (necessary to support modern motors and batteries).  Without sacrificing durability we designed a built up tail section utilizing the Stevens AeroModel TrusLoc(tm).  Next we updated the fuselage to a lighter wrapped carbon fiber tube (as opposed to the older pultruded fiberglass unit).  We didn't stop there as we re-touched the servo and receiver tray and have even included support for the popular Hacker A10 outrunner motors.  By modernizing the design we were able to drop a full two ounces off the final weight reducing the wing loading to a scant 2.4oz/sq.' which equals better performance from simple brushed electronics, more power on tap, and more fun!
